Under One Roof by Barry Martin (with Philip Lerman)

When I brought this book home from the library, and even as I read it, I didn’t realize until I got to the last pages that I was not reading a work of fiction. It seemed too incredible to be true, but Under One Roof: Lessons I Learned from a Tough Old Woman in a Little Old House is a biography. Unlike most books I recommend here at By Word of Beth, it is a book written for adults. Barry Martin, author of the book, is a construction foreman by vocation. He had no idea what he was getting into when he started working on a mall project in Washington State. There was an obstacle to the realization of the full plan for the mall — although all the other houses in that area had been bought and torn down, one older woman was determined not to sell no matter what.
