I decided I just HAVE to do an extra post today, to let you all know that the new book in Julie Andrews’ and Emma Walton Hamilton’s Very Fairy Princess series, The Very Fairy Princess: Here Comes the Flower Girl, is being released today!
In conjunction with the book’s release, Julie Andrews, the Target Corporation, and Disney are teaming up next week for their first “National Princess Week.”
In Julie’s words, “Throughout my career as an actress and author, I’ve encouraged children to use their imaginations and dream big,” … “Joining Disney and Target to create National Princess Week is an extension of my work – a moment in time for children to celebrate their individuality and let their inner sparkle shine.” (Quoted from Business Wire, April 3, 2012)
Here on my blog I will be celebrating National Princess Week, and the launch of Julie’s and Emma’s new book, all next week — all within the context of my A to Z posts. Click the magic words to learn more…
First of all, any comment on next week’s blog posts, T, U, V, W, and X, will make you eligible for a GIVEAWAY. First prize will be a copy of The Very Fairy Princess: Here Comes the Flower Girl and a handmade fairy princess wand, made by a woman in Minnesota. Second prize will be a copy of the book on its own.
On Wednesday, I will be featuring a brief interview with the VERY FAIRY PRINCESS, Geraldine, herself! It was a delight to do this interview with her. (Fairy Princesses are a lot of fun to talk with.)
On Thursday, I’ll be interviewing the talented woman who made the fairy princess wand I’m offering as part of the First Prize in the giveaway.
On Friday, for Perfect Picture Book day, I’ll be (you guessed it) reviewing the newly released book.
It’s going to be a fun week, with plenty of opportunities for us all to “let our SPARKLE out!”
But wait! That’s not all!
TODAY, besides launching their newest book (launch party and signing at Books of Wonder in New York today), Julie and Emma are also launching their Very Fairy Princess website — http://www.theveryfairyprincess.com — which teaches kids about real princesses and the good they do, and gives lots of fun ways that kids can let their own SPARKLE out.
A FREE APP for the Very Fairy Princess has just been announced for iPhone and iPad. Your own Fairy Princess or Prince can have fun with sparkly wands, a gallery of illustrations and quotes from Geraldine, and can take a picture with a tiara like Geraldine’s on the iPhone screen. For more information, see this blog post on Emma Walton Hamilton’s website.
There will also be television appearances and signings galore — if you’re in the Los Angeles area or the Seattle area next week, you’re in luck! Check the calendar of the Julie Andrews Collection for details. (Once you get to the calendar, click on each little “Signing at…” for full information.)
ENJOY!!!
Cute idea! This book reminds me of the Fancy Nancy series. I never bought one of them but flipped through a few often when I used to work in retail.
Cheers!

I have looked at the Fancy Nancy books, but confess she’s a little too “fancy” for me. I prefer Geraldine, this Very Fairy Princess. She’s more “real”.
Thanks for visiting!
I have to agree with Beth, I absolutely love Geraldine! I just can’t get the saying “You just have to let your sparkle out” out of my head – I love this series because having 2 teenage daughters I can’t say enough how important it is to help them find their inner sparkle when they are young and to have a healthy self esteem so that they are equipped and ready to endure what will come at them in middle school and high school. Fabulous article you wrote here!
Thank you, Erica — that was so well said. That is the difference between the “fancy nancy” type of character and Geraldine. Although Geraldine loves pink, and tiaras, the main message is to find one’s true self and to shine from within.
Thanks again!
Thanks for the heads up Beth! I just shared the link to the website on Facebook. How wonderful that they share stories of real princesses and the good work they do.
Thank you, Julie, for sharing the website. It’s a great message to spread far and wide!
Thank you for the post Beth! I checked out the website; it’s amazing! I’m looking forward to seeing the new book!
Thanks, Dana! Stay tuned to my blog next week — you might win a copy of the book!
