Housekeeping on the blog — and a request for input

As the subject heading says, I’ve been doing a little housekeeping, primarily on the sidebar. I’ve added a list of links to all the interviews I’ve done, and a list of links to all the books I’ve recommended. I hope people will find these finding aids helpful. I will, of course, update them whenever there is a new interview or new title recommended.

I’ve also reduced the size of the Networked Blogs subscription box — I apologize to the followers whose pictures no longer show, but it was getting a bit unwieldy.

Also — as I look ahead to the fall, if there’s anything you’d like me to post about, please suggest it in the comments. All suggestions will be taken into consideration.

  1. I like the housekeeping Beth! You’ve inspired me to try something similar with my interviews… if I can ever find time to get around to it 🙂 But it makes it so neat and organized and easy to find! I have no helpful suggestions – I love your blog 🙂

    1. Thanks, Susanna! I had some extra time last night, because there’s a concert going on in the park very near here, and the music is loud enough that it seems as though the concert is on my balcony! So sleep wasn’t going to happen. It seemed a good time to muck about with the blog.

Thanks for your vote of confidence! 🙂

  2. Very neat and organized, Beth, I agree!
I wonder if you want to have tow or three blog posts on the blog page, since people will be scrolling down to check out the links? You could also have more by playing around with the “more” option…I like doing that. Leave a little teaser early on in your post and people can click if they want to read more.

You may already know about it, but I find it really helpful, especially because sometimes I write really long posts! If you have the preview/ first look kind of thing, you can have a bunch of them on the first page.

Maybe you don’t want that, but just a thought.
I think it is very simple and easy to navigate, which is good!
I particularly like that you have a few things you do consistently (Monday Musings and Perfect Picture Book Fridays) and do the other things whenever you want to! I am aspiring to have a weekly thing, but it’s hard! Good for you!

    1. Thanks, Kathy Ellen! Actually, I already do that. I have five previews on the blog page, with a read more option (this post was so short, that it didn’t warrant being split.)

I’ve recently changed from posting three times a week to posting twice. Three was just taking too much time from my regular writing.

      Best wishes with your blog!

  3. I would love to see posts highlighting various publishers that are accepting picture books (maybe according to subject/topic), and links to them. Also, technical topics, such as the query letter and proposal (many publishers have been asking for proposals even for picture books). I’ve been toying with posting these topics, but as yet, I haven’t had the time. So, go for it, Beth!

  4. Oh, this reminds me I need to do some virtual housecleaning along with a few dust bunnies in real life too. I always hear the longer you blog, the more cluttered you become. I feel that way. I added a resource page vs. links in the sidebar. It allowed me to free up the sidebar and add an assortment. Of course, typing this (just like saying it out loud) makes me realize I need to clean it up. Hmm. Now where’s my to do list … under which pile at my desk. 🙂 Good luck.

    1. A resource page is a great idea, and if pages on my blog worked the way they’re supposed tom that would be a very good way for me to do this. Dang pages!

I look forward to hearing that you’ve turned your To-Do list into a Ta-Da! list. 🙂

  5. Beth!! Hi!! Your blog looks wonderful…all spiffy and organized. You’re a wonder! I don’t kno who you wrangle all these things.
And btw, I’m honored to be in the sidebar.
    Thank you!!!!!!

I’ve been doing nothing much but paint and occasionally post on RB, so I’m waaaaaay behind here and everywhere. I hope to get caught up soon.
    (((((happy to see you hugs))))))
